BRAND EXTENSION, 101: ZAMBONI MERCHANDISE SURFACES

Zamboni Merchandising GM Paula Coony said that the
company is "pleased with the results of its first year in
business," according to Lindsay Chaney of the Long Beach
PRESS-TELEGRAM. Launched by Zamboni, manufacturer of the
ice resurfacing machine, Zamboni Merchandising has a line of
more than 40 products. All "branded clothing items" are
handled in-house, but the company also licenses the name to
"a few manufacturers." White Rose Collectibles, for
example, makes a line of Zamboni toys and models that are
actually coin banks. Zamboni and NHL teams also have co-
branding agreements for apparel that carries both the team
and Zamboni names. Zamboni also sells a retail kiosk that
is a 3/4-scale model of a real Zamboni, the first of which
is located at the Anaheim Pond, painted in Mighty Ducks
colors. Coony said that some minor league hockey teams have
also ordered kiosks. Coony and the NHL are also developing a
Zamboni cartoon character (Long Beach PRESS-TELEGRAM, 11/9).
