SCHOTT AGREES TO GIVE UP OWNERSHIP OF REDS

MLB announced Friday that Marge Schott has agreed to
relinquish her role as the Reds' General Partner, as she
will sell two of her general partner shares and three and a
half of her limited partner shares of the Reds. The
agreement by which John Allen was named the team's Managing
Exec will be extended through the end of this year, or until
Schott sells her partnership shares (MLB). Allen said that
little will change with the team until the shares are sold:
"We haven't been sitting around speculating on what would
happen with the announcement" (CINCINNATI POST, 10/24).
LOCALS WONDER IF "NIGHTMARE" IS OVER: In Cincinnati,
Bill Koch wrote that the end of Schott's reign means the
"city's long nightmare is almost over." Koch: "In short, no
more national ridicule" (CINCINNATI POST, 10/24). But also
in Cincinnati, Erardi & Hobson reported that Schott's
"aggressive" and "often abrasive" style have left some
"wondering if the story is really over." One source close
to the Reds said Saturday: "Knowing her, this is the top of
the first inning" (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 10/24).
