ADIDAS & BUCS: HAVING THEIR (WEDDING) CAKE AND EATING IT TOO

adidas has a marketing partnership with the Bucs and
signed several team players for its latest ad campaign,
according to Rick Stroud of the ST. PETE TIMES. Bucs DBs
John Lynch and Charles Mincy and LBs Jeff Gooch and Shelton
Quarles are featured in a 30-second regional spot as
"tuxedoed waiters at a posh wedding reception." During the
ad, the Bucs players "plant" an "eager bachelor" waiting to
catch the bride's garter into a wedding cake. The slogan
"Some guys were just made for football," along with the Bucs
logo appear after the bachelor is tackled. Lynch: "When
[adidas] first approached me, I was really happy with Nike.
... But Nike is Nike, and they're really going to try to
give exposure to three or four top players in each league.
... [adidas] talked about really featuring me, and they've
done a good job with that." Bucs WRs Reidel Anthony, Karl
Williams and Jacquez Green are also featured in a spot as
firefighters "who rush to find an elderly woman standing in
the second-floor window of a burning building holding a
frightened puppy." Williams and Green "rush in" to prevent
a celebratory Anthony from spiking the dog after the woman
throws it to him. adidas plans to air the spots nationally
if the Bucs make the playoffs (ST. PETE TIMES, 10/22).
