SCHOTT-GONE? REDS OWNER EXPECTED TO SELL INTEREST IN TEAM
Published October 22, 1998
Reds Owner Marge Schott "has signed a document agreeing
to sell her controlling interest in a deal that could see
the Reds with new owners by early 1999," according to team
sources cited by Geoff Hobson of the CINCINNATI ENQUIRER. A
deal "was apparently not finalized" Wednesday night because
MLB execs "had yet to receive" the paperwork "ending
Schott's" tenure before Game Four of the World Series. MLB
is "expected to make an immediate announcement if and when
it receives Schott's signed intent to sell." Reds Managing
Exec John Allen will remain in charge until a sale is
finalized. However, "indications" from MLB are that Schott
"would be welcome as a limited partner as long as she has no
control" if she can work out an agreement with new owners.
Schott had no comment Wednesday night (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER,
10/22). For more on the Reds' ballpark, see (#20).
