RIVERFRONT CASH FLOW: SUPPORTERS SPENDING FREELY ON TV ADS
Published October 22, 1998
Supporters of a riverfront ballpark for the Reds "are
outspending backers of Broadway Commons by a nearly 3-to-1
margin" on TV advertising, according to Barry Horstman of
the CINCINNATI POST. Proponents of the riverfront "wedge"
site have purchased $283,377 worth of ads on local network
and cable stations, compared to $99,225 bought by supporters
of downtown's Broadway Commons. The pro-riverfront 30-
second ads, titled "Move Greater Cincinnati Forward!," show
color images of the "wedge" site next to Cinergy Field and
call Broadway Commons proponents a "small group of
landowners" pushing for the downtown site. Broadway
Commons' ads "contend" that a Broadway ballpark could cost
up to $80M less and be built two years earlier than a
stadium on the riverfront (CINCINNATI POST, 10/21). The
Reds have contributed $50,000 toward the pro-riverfront
campaign, while the Greater Cincinnati Chamber has spent
$25,000, constituting the two largest contributions on
record (Lucy May, CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 10/22).
