TAKIN' IT TO THE STREETBALL: PARTNERS LOOK FOR MORE EVENTS

Dallas-based Streetball Partners was profiled by
Richard Alm of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Streetball "in
recent years has steadily -- and profitably -- extended" its
Hoop-It-Up concept to football, hockey, golf, volleyball,
baseball and soccer, which Alm called "Streetball's only
clunker." The company now has six properties and "puts on
141 events a year, attracting 287,000 participants and
nearly 2 million spectators." Streetball Exec VP/Events Bob
Elliott: "We created the industry, which we dominate."
Streetball President Doug Jarvie said that revenues from
events "jumped" 300% in the past three years, and "more than
two-thirds of it comes from sponsors." Tad Brown, Exec
VP/Sales & Marketing: "We can put together an integrated
program -- from national media down to sampling rights. You
really have to find out what the sponsors' objectives are,
or you will be lost." MLB Rangers/Stars Owner Tom Hicks
signed a deal in June to acquire Host Communications, which
merged its collegiate division with Streetball Partners and
its Universal Sports America (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 10/17).
