GOLFSMITH HITS THE LYNX FOR $10M, CAUSING TEARDROPS FOR SOME

          TX-based Golfsmith's bid of $10.25M for CA-based Lynx
Golf, which recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy,
includes $8.35M in cash, and was approved by a bankruptcy
court, according to Bruce Bigelow of the S.D. UNION-TRIBUNE.
Golfsmith's bid did not include Lynx's manufacturing
facility which employs 25 employees who make the company's
irons and woods. Golfsmith Exec VP Frank Paul said the
company plans to move all of its Lynx assets to TX when the
purchase closes. The Golfsmith bid topped the $9M bid of
IL-based TearDrop Golf. In September, Lynx said it "had
agreed to sell substantially all of its assets" to TearDrop
Golf. In a separate announcement, TearDrop Golf said the
bankruptcy court "agreed to transfer" Fred Couples'
endorsement deal from Lynx to TearDrop. Terms of the deal
with Couples, who was a "significant shareholder in Lynx,"
were not disclosed (SAN DIEGO UNION-TRIBUNE, 10/16).
