COULD CONFLICT OF INTEREST CASES SURROUND TWO RADIO VOICES?

Toronto FAN sports radio host and former Maple Leafs GM
Gord Stellick will soon join sports lawyer Gordon Kirke and
marketer Brad Robins "in announcing the formation" of KSR
Sports Representatives, according to Tim Wharnsby of the
TORONTO SUN. Stellick said he knows that "other agents will
levy conflict of interest charges" if he continues his radio
show on the FAN. Stellick: "I've been up front with the
station and told them of my intentions and they don't have a
problem with that. A conflict is a conflict when it becomes
a conflict" (Tim Wharnsby, TORONTO SUN, 10/12).
HOWARD'S END: In San Antonio, Arthur Garcia chronicled
the case of Jay Howard, who is both the Sports Dir at WOAI-
TV and Spurs radio play-by-play voice. The "the appearance
of conflict of interest is hard to avoid" when Howard "makes
it clear where his loyalties lie" with the owners during the
NBA lockout. Howard: "I only see there being a conflict if
it would change my opinion." Garcia: "It's hard for a
journalist to be objective when he's personally affected by
the issue" (SAN ANTONIO EXPRESS-NEWS, 10/12).
