LPGA player Danielle Ammaccapane has signed with the
NFL to wear the colors and marks of the NFL team in the city
in which she is playing, becoming the first female pro
athlete ever endorsed by the NFL. The clothing is provided
by NFL licensee Moretz Sports. Ammaccapane wore the
Steelers' black and gold during last weekend's LPGA
CoreStates Betsy King Classic in Kutztown, PA. Next up for
Ammaccapane is the LPGA Tournament of Champions, where she
will wear the colors of the Redskins (Advantage Int'l).
STATING THEIR CASE: Some of the golf industry's
"heaviest hitters" said that there "is no need for a new
test that could render the next generation of clubs
illegal." Karsten President John Solheim and Acushnet
President & CEO Wally Uihlein spoke at a public forum in NJ
sponsored by the USGA, and said that the USGA's proposed
testing procedures "would stifle innovation, was technically
flawed and did not measure how balls were really struck."
They also "left little doubt that, unless the [USGA]
withdrew its proposal, they would sue" (USA TODAY, 9/29).
