LEAGUE NOTES

NHL VP/Special Events Frank Supovitz told the Tampa
community that for the second straight year, the NHL All-
Star Game will use an international format of the World vs.
North America (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 9/23). In Edmonton, Jim
Matheson said the Oilers "look like a good bet" to play an
international game next year "if the NHL doesn't say goodbye
to Japan." Matheson adds that there "might even be league
games in Scandinavia and Prague in the near future"
(EDMONTON JOURNAL, 9/23)...John McEnroe, on his desire to
have a leadership role in tennis: "I certainly could be part
of bigger issues if they asked me to be there in a real
leadership role, but the ATP people in some ways are like
Davis Cup. They don't want somebody with opinions who will
disagree with them. They want 'yes' people who will
continue along the path of mediocrity" (FT. WORTH STAR-
TELEGRAM, 9/23)....The Premier Soccer Alliance entertained
reps from thirteen prospective markets in Dallas over the
weekend to present the league's business plan for '99. PSA
President Gordon Jago said that after Saturday's meetings,
he will be visiting separately with the principle owners for
five potential teams in the next week to ten days (PSA).
