LEAGUE NOTES

BLOOMBERG reported that Toronto "is expected" to be
awarded the 2000 NHL All-Star Game, "beating out Nashville"
(BLOOMBERG NEWS, 9/15)....In S.F., John Crumpacker wrote,
"consider Houston a virtual lock to become" the NFL's 32nd
team (S.F. EXAMINER, 9/13)....NFL Commissioner Paul
Tagliabue "admitted that San Diego and New Orleans could be
in line" for the 2002 Super Bowl if S.F. is unable to host
     the game (S.D. UNION-TRIBUNE, 9/14)....The WNBA assigned
former Stanford F Kristin Folkl to the expansion Minnesota
team and former UConn G/F Nykesha Sales to Orlando (WNBA).
GOLF UNION: In Dallas, Brad Townsend writes on the PGA
Tour Players Association (TPA), and comments, "at first
blush, it seems too absurd to believe." But "upon closer
look," some of the TPA's "complaints" -- such as travel
expenses and more input on tour policy -- "are valid, in the
least worth debating." Townsend foresees the PGA Tour's
Policy Board, "wanting to avoid divisiveness at all costs,
quietly will influence [PGA Tour Commissioner Tim] Finchem
and the tour to address some of the TPA's concerns" (DALLAS
MORNING NEWS, 9/16). TPA President Danny Edwards said that
"more than" 50 golfers have signed on, "although only about
half have paid up." PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem spoke
to a players group last week for "about two hours about what
the PGA Tour is and where it is going, even disclosing the
salaries of the top staff members" (DETROIT NEWS, 9/16).
