NAMES IN THE NEWS

          AL PACINO visited the 49ers last week in preparation
     for his upcoming OLIVER STONE film "On Any Given Sunday"
     (S.F EXAMINER, 9/12).  In Boston, Will McDonough wrote that
     Pacino "is studying" Jets coach BILL PARCELLS, having "spent
     some time with Parcells at a Jets practice and in his
     office" (BOSTON GLOBE, 9/12)....Former Cowboys TE JAY
     NOVACEK is opening a 1,500-acre hunting resort this fall in
     NE (AP/S.A. EXPRESS-NEWS, 9/12)....In MN, One on One Sports
     has filed a suit against T-Wolves F KEVIN GARNETT and his
     agent, ERIC FLEISHER, for "allegedly failing to provide
     enough merchandise for a Mall of America store that bore
     Garnett's name," which the store claims resulted in its
     closing and losses in excess of $500,000 (ST. PAUL PIONEER
     PRESS, 9/11)....Financial advisor and player agent GREG
     FESTE was profiled by Margie Mason in the FL TIMES-UNION,
     who wrote that Feste has steered some of his clients,
     including Jaguars QB MARK BRUNELL and OL TONY BOSELLI, "into
     promoting companies that he owns."  Mason also wrote that
     Feste is a "close friend" of Champions For Christ President
     GREG BALL, and the ties between the two "led the NFL to make
     inquiries about their relationship and critics to question
     whether money, not religion, is the driving force in Feste's
     life" (FL TIMES-UNION, 9/13)....Yankee Stadium Vendor
     KENNETH SPINNER, on Yankees SS DEREK JETER: "I've been here
     42 years and I've never seen girls go fanatical about a
     ballplayer like this" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 9/13).
