FACILITY NOTES

In N.Y., George Vecsey wrote on the "upscale, but often
yawning chasm of Arthur Ashe Stadium." He added that the
reason for the "lassitude" is that the lower half of the
facility is sold out to corporations and box-seat patrons.
Vecsey: "As a result, the only excitement in the main
stadium often comes from knots of real tennis fans in the
     upper-reaches" (N.Y. TIMES, 9/13)....A Silverdome official
said that the Lions are "contractually bound" to the
Silverdome through 2005, while the team claims its lease
runs only through 2004. If the lease does extend to 2005,
it could "jack up by millions of dollars" what the team
would have to pay the city of Pontiac to buy out the lease
and move into their new facility (DETROIT FREE PRESS, 9/14).
