WAR OF THE WORDS: ALL-SPORTS RADIO TAKING OVER THE AIR WAVES

A new study by Interep using "a variety of sources"
shows that the number of all-sports format radio stations
"has grown nearly" 130% since '94, with at least 220
stations currently on the air, with all-sports stations in
24 of the top 25 metro markets, according to John Merli of
BROADCASTING & CABLE. Data shows that about 75% of all-
sports listeners are male, with about 70% in the 25-54 demo.
Nationally, nearly two-thirds of all-sports listeners are
either college graduates (45%) or have attended college
(20%), "well above the national average" (B&C, 9/7).
ALL SENS, ALL DAY LONG: In Ottawa, Chris Stevenson
reports that Ottawa Sports Radio 1200, the city's first 24-
hour sports radio station, "was almost eight hours late out
of the blocks" yesterday, but once the station's programming
started at 3:00pm, sports fans, "particularly fans of the
Senators -- got an earful" (OTTAWA SUN, 9/10).
