STAPLES CENTER DELAY HAS KINGS ON THE ROAD TO START '99

NHL Kings President Tim Leiweke said Tuesday that the
$350M Staples Center "will not open in time" to host the
team's preseason games in '99, according to Helene Elliott
of the L.A. TIMES. The arena, which will also be the home
of the Lakers and Clippers, may not be ready until November.
While the Kings could play exhibition games at The Forum, it
is "more likely" that they will play in London, Ontario,
since Kings co-Owner Philip Anschutz also owns the OHL
London Knights and is co-Owner of a London arena. Elliott
reported that the NHL will schedule the Kings to begin the
'99-2000 regular season on the road to allow more time for
completion of the arena (L.A. TIMES, 9/9).
