THE NFL IS HEADED DIRECTV-LY TO COURT OVER SUNDAY TICKET

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Gawthrop "has allowed
a lawsuit to go forward" in which three NFL fans claim that
the league "is illegally forcing fans to subscribe to
DirecTV's Sunday Ticket pay-cable broadcasts," according to
Ron Borges of the BOSTON GLOBE. The suit contends that NFL
teams "are limiting the number of games on free TV, thus
forcing fans" of teams who live out of market to spend $139
or more to get the Sunday Ticket. The NFL "had asked that
the suit be dismissed," but Judge Gawthrop "ruled that
having free broadcasts in limited markets was not enough to
protect the DirecTV feeds from antitrust challenges and the
suit could go forward" (BOSTON GLOBE, 8/30).
