TWINS BIDDING HEATING UP? ONE REPORT HAS CHARLOTTE IN MIX

If the Twins are not sold to local interests by
September 14, "look for" team Owner Carl Pohlad to announce
a "financing deal" with NationsBank of Charlotte, where the
club would be moved for the 2001 season, according to
Charley Walters of the ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS. Walters
added that "local suitors" are not "getting a break on the
price" for the team, which is between $135M-$140M. In
addition, an OR-based sports management firm "hasn't given
up on trying to entice the Twins to move to Portland" (ST.
PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 8/30). In Minneapolis, Sid Hartman
reported that T-Wolves Owner Glen Taylor and T-Wolves
stockholder Ralph Burnet "may talk" to the Pohlads "about
their interest" in the Twins. Taylor: "We are not
interested in being an investor. We would want to control
the ownership and run it" (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/30).
