MILES PRENTICE SAYS, "IT'S ELEMENTARY, MY DEAR TOM WATSON"

Golfer Tom Watson has joined Miles Prentice in his bid
to buy the Royals, according to Charles Crumpley of the K.C.
STAR. Watson said Friday "that he was motivated to help
save the baseball team for Kansas City, and that he was sold
by Prentice's enthusiasm." Watson would not say how much
money he's investing with the Prentice group, but Prentice
"lately has requested minimum investments" of $5M. Prentice
again declined on Friday to say how close he is to the 50%
local ownership request made by the Royals board. Crumpley
reported that some observers "have been impressed by
Prentice's ability to come into Kansas City and put together
a group to buy the Royals," especially a group "made up of
such disparate types." Greater K.C. Sports Commission
President Kevin Gray: "This guy (Prentice) is good. This
guy is one of the best. It's impressive" (K.C. STAR, 8/29).
In K.C., columnist Joe Posnanski wrote, "This Tom Watson
pickup is huge. Watson is no sucker" (K.C. STAR, 8/29).
