SPORTS EQUIPMENT SALES REPORT PROFITABLE FIRST QUARTER

          Sports equipment sales topped $1B in sporting goods     stores and mass merchants for the first quarter of '98,     according to the NSGA's new SportsTrac study.  The study     provides POS data from sporting goods chain stores and mass     merchandisers on a monthly basis (NSGA).
