MEDIA NOTES

Peter Vecsey of NBC and the N.Y. Post is interviewed in
SLAM magazine. Vecsey, on where he gets his scoops: "You
make the calls, you ask the right question at the right
time; if you've built up a relationship with the person and
he trusts you not to expose him, that's what happens. I
read recently where supposedly people fear me and that's why
they give me stuff -- that is totally incorrect. It's
relationships built up by trust on both sides" (SLAM, 10/98
issue)....TX-based Chancellor Media "is expected to announce
a deal soon" to acquire Capstar which "would make it the
nation's biggest radio company with annual revenue likely to
exceed" $1.6B, surpassing CBS (DALLAS MORNING NEWS, 8/27).
...Fox Sports Southwest earned an 8.8 total TV household
rating for Tuesday's Astros-Braves game, which translates to
a 15.7 cable rating. The number marks an all-time high for
an Astros game (FSSW)....CBS will air "NFL Summer Camp" on
Friday, September 4 at 9:00pm ET. The primetime special is
the first produced by NFL Films for CBS. CBS announcers
Phil Simms, Marcus Allen, Brent Jones and George Seifert
will follow four players and a coach through an NFL training
camp (CBS Sports)....Sport Magazine will debut "Sport
Heroes," a special issue about "the real heroes of sport,"
in November. Former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley will serve
as guest editor, and a portion of ad revenue will be donated
to the Starlight Children's Foundation (Sport).
