WNBA RATINGS: For its 11 regular-season WNBA games this year, NBC averaged a 1.5/5 down 21% from '97, when the net averaged a 1.9/6 through 10 games (THE DAILY). The AP reports that WNBA season ratings also fell 29% on ESPN, and 17% on Lifetime (AP/DETROIT NEWS, 8/21). Memphis, which does not have a WNBA team, was the U.S. market "with the highest" WNBA ratings (AP/ORLANDO SENTINEL, 8/21). OTHER RATINGS: Fox's 3.5/11 rating for its MLB coverage was the net's second-highest MLB rating of the year. For the season, "MLB on Fox" is averaging a 2.9, even through 12 weeks but up 7% from last season's 2.7 full season average (Fox Sports)....CBS's PGA Championship two-day average was a 5.0/14....In Chicago, Tuesday's Cardinals-Cubs game on WGN drew a 12.0/19 overnight rating, the station's top-rated MLB telecast this year (CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 8/21).

TNT’s Stan Van Gundy, ESPN’s Tim Reed, NBA Playoffs and NFL Draft

On this week’s pod, SBJ’s Austin Karp has two Big Get interviews. The first is with TNT’s Stan Van Gundy as he breaks down the NBA Playoffs from the booth. Later in the show, we hear from ESPN’s VP of Programming and Acquisitions Tim Reed as the NFL Draft gets set to kick off on Thursday night in Motown. SBJ’s Tom Friend also joins the show to share his insights into NBA viewership trends.
