FACILITY NOTES

Howard Rubenstein, the spokesperson for Yankees Owner
George Steinbrenner, on Steinbrenner saying that he would
talk about staying in the Bronx if attendance reached three
million: "He has promised that he will talk about the Bronx
if they go over three million. But he's made no commitment
to staying in the Bronx if they do" (N.Y. TIMES, 8/18).
...USA TODAY's Hal Bodley reports that interest is "so high"
for an MLB team in VA, that corporations "already have
approached representatives of Virginia Baseball Club Inc.
about naming rights" to the yet-to-be-built stadium (USA
TODAY, 8/18)....In Toronto, "thousands" turned out Sunday to
see a preview of the Air Canada Centre. Columnist Rose
DiManno: "It's not a pretty building, not from the outside,"
but "the innards are more appealing, thankfully, given that
this is still just another poured-concrete monstrosity"
(TORONTO STAR, 8/17). Also in Toronto, Paul Hunter wrote
that for a building that will hold 18,700 fans, the Air
Canada Centre appears "strikingly intimate" and "almost
cozy" (TORONTO STAR, 8/15)....The USTA, which "was stung
last September by corporate displeasure" over food
prices/quality at the U.S. Open, is "under pressure" at this
year's event after changing to new caterer Restaurant
Associates. The USTA's Suzanne Maguire, who handles the
food service: "I hope they'll give us a chance and give
     Restaurant Associates a chance" (N.Y. TIMES, 8/17).
