NAMES IN THE NEWS

          NBA Kings F CHRIS WEBBER was "detained" in Puerto Rico
     for possession of marijuana.  While U.S. Customs officials
     said that Webber "signed documents acknowledging possession
     of a small quantity of marijuana and paid a $500
     administrative fine," Webber's agent FALLASHA ERWIN said
     that Webber and the two people he was travelling with "told
     him Webber was not in possession of marijuana, did not sign
     a document ... and did not pay a fine."  Webber was en route
     to Barbados for a Fila-sponsored promotional tour
     (WASHINGTON POST, 8/17).... "JUDGE MILLS LANE," a new
     syndicated TV series featuring the judge/boxing referee,
     premieres today (THE DAILY)....Nike Chair PHIL KNIGHT
     attended Saturday's third round of the PGA Championship and
     followed TIGER WOODS (SEATTLE TIMES, 8/16).

TNT’s Stan Van Gundy, ESPN’s Tim Reed, NBA Playoffs and NFL Draft
