BIDDING PERIOD OPENS FOR POTENTIAL TWINS INVESTORS

Twins officials announced Friday "that they have opened
the 30-day period during which they are to seek new
investors interested in buying the club from owner Carl
Pohlad," according to David Hanners of the ST. PAUL PIONEER
PRESS. The bidding period is part of a new two-year
Metrodome lease agreement that will keep the Twins in MN
through the 2000 season and pay them an extra $1M a year
(ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 8/15). In Minneapolis, John Millea
reported that Pohlad said that people interested in
investing in the club must do so by September 14. He has
not said that he is willing to sell 100% of the team. Among
those mentioned as prospective investors are Timberwolves
Owner Glen Taylor and a group that includes Clark Griffith
and Mike Veeck (Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/15). Pohlad's
financial adviser, Bob Starkey: "We are not ruling out
anything, including somebody who wants to buy the team" (Sid
     Hartman, Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 8/15).
