SOUTH FLORIDA'S NEWEST HOCKEY TEAM GETS SOME CORPORATE HELP

The ECHL Miami Matadors announced a multi-year, mid-
six-figure deal making FL-based Omnipoint Communications its
presenting sponsor. The tag "Omnipoint presents the Miami
Matadors" will be used in multiple media and in-stadium
applications. Omnipoint will also have signage inside Miami
Arena, a logo on all Matadors official game jerseys and will
offer team promos at retail locations. The deal was handled
by FL-based Pro Sports Marketing. The team also announced
deals with HealthSouth and Appliance TV-Depot (Matadors).
BP CRUNCHES SPONSORSHIP: In Cleveland, Dennis Manoloff
reported that the NPSL Crunch "is negotiating for a new
principal sponsor for the 1998-99 season to replace British
Petroleum." The Crunch's two-year contract with BP ended
after last season. Crunch GM Al Miller declined to discuss
the value of BP's contract, but Manoloff wrote that it "was
believed to have easily exceeded six figures for the two
     years" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 8/12).
