NAMES IN THE NEWS

          U.S. SEN. JOHN MCCAIN (R-AZ) told USA TODAY that "the
     fix is in" for MIKE TYSON to receive his boxing license from
     the state of NJ tomorrow.  McCain: "They (New Jersey
     regulators) are going to deliberate and then give him a
     license -- it's obvious" (USA TODAY, 8/13)....SPIKE LEE was
     at Yankee Stadium yesterday shooting scenes for his upcoming
     film on the '70s murderer, Son of Sam (HARTFORD COURANT,
     8/13).  Also, BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN attended yesterday's Twins-
     Yankees game, and Yankees OF BERNIE WILLIAMS had his guitar
     autographed by Springsteen.  Springsteen wrote, "If you're
     ever tired of baseball.... Best Wishes, Bruce Springsteen"
     ("Showbiz Today," CNN, 8/12)....Univ. of IN men's basketball
     coach BOBBY KNIGHT is named in a $4M suit by MARK TREADWELL,
     a former recruit, for "breach of contract."  Treadwell, who
     was told in the spring that he would not be admitted for
     "academic reasons," has been diagnosed with clinical
     depression and has been under a doctor's care.  Knight:
     "From our standpoint, there's no problem I could imagine"
     (CHARLOTTE OBSERVER, 8/13)....A report in the Cleveland said
     that if the DEBARTOLO FAMILY's deal to sell the Thistledown
     horse racing track to FL-based CALL NOW "falls through,"
     Yankees Owner GEORGE STEINBRENNER "might just step forward
     and pick up the pieces" (Cleveland PLAIN DEALER, 8/12).
