IS ROSENHAUS' OTHER HOBBY A SERIOUS CONFLICT OF INTEREST?

Agent Drew Rosenhaus "has a growing media presence" in
South FL and nationally, according to Michael Mayo of the
Fort Lauderdale SUN-SENTINEL, who looks at Rosenhaus' role
as a "Dolphins insider" on WSVN-TV's "Sunday Sports Extra."
Rosenhaus, who reps 14 Dolphins and about 50 NFL players,
also has a two-hour Miami radio show, an Internet radio show
on CBS SportsLine, and a weekly national cable spot on FSN.
Rosenhaus isn't the only agent on the air today, and Mayo
wrote, "The trend is troubling at best, a conflict of
interest at worst." WSVN VP Alice Jacobs said that
Rosenhaus is "not there to be the journalist, he's more of a
commentator." While Rosenhaus is not paid to appear on
WSVN, Mayo noted that it "doesn't mean Rosenhaus -- and his
clients -- aren't benefitting or viewers aren't in danger of
being misled." Last week, Rosenhaus was asked about
Dolphins DT Tim Bowens, who is holding out. On air,
Rosenhaus said, "I went to see him in [MS] this week and
he's doing great. He's staying in shape." Mayo wrote that
it was not mentioned, but "merely assumed," that viewers
knew Rosenhaus reps Bowens. Rosenhaus: "I try to be as
objective as possible. I'm not shilling for my players."
Mayo: "Either you're an agent or a broadcaster. It's too bad
media outlets allow people to be both" (SUN-SENTINEL, 8/9).
CREDIBLE COLT? In Indianapolis, Conrad Brunner writes
that the "credibility of perhaps the city's finest" TV
sports news team "took a hit" when WTHR-TV sports anchor
Dave Calabro signed on as the third member of the Colts'
radio team. Brunner writes that Calabro "is taking a
paycheck from a team he is supposed to be objectively
covering ... Can one more check cover the cost of lost
     integrity?" (INDIANAPOLIS STAR-NEWS, 8/10).
