NFL TURNS STONE COLD TO OLIVER FOR "ON ANY GIVEN SUNDAY"

The NFL has given the "cold shoulder" to film director
Oliver Stone who is working on "On Any Given Sunday,"
according to Bob Glauber of NEWSDAY. In a recent memo to
team owners/execs, NFL President Neil Austrian "cautioned
against helping Stone because the movie is expected to take
what Austrian considers a negative approach." Austrian
wrote, "After reading the script, I told Oliver that I did
not think it accurately or positively portrayed our players,
club owners or club personnel. There is considerable focus
on the use of drugs in the locker room and on a team doctor
patterned after (former Raiders team physician) Dr. Rob
Huizenga, author of 'You're Okay, It's Just a Bruise.'"
Austrian told Stone that NFL Properties "would not allow any
of the league's trademarks in the movie," and he "urged team
owners to follow suit by prohibiting Stone from using their
individual logos" (Bob Glauber, NEWSDAY, 8/9).
