TYSON'S TEMPER TANTRUM UNLIKELY TO IMPACT BID FOR NJ LICENSE

MIKE TYSON "remains a heavy favorite to get a boxing
license" in NJ within 10 days, despite an "emotional and
cursing outburst" yesterday near the end of his hearing in
Trenton, according to Michael Katz of the N.Y. DAILY NEWS.
One boxing exec said Tyson "didn't curse" or "attack anyone
personally. He should only worry if someone in Jersey
decided it's a good political issue, and it's not an
election year." At least two members of the State Athletic
Control Board will rule on Tyson's bid in a session next
Thursday. There are three members on the board, one of whom
did not attend yesterday's hearing. Katz adds that two
voting members "are regarded as sympathetic to Tyson's
cause" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 7/30). ESPN's Al Bernstein said
his "gut feeling" is that NJ will grant Tyson a license.
Bernstein: "I think that they feel like it's going to be
economically good for their state" ("SportsCenter," 7/29).
