          VP AL GORE stopped by Turner Field before last night's
     Brewers-Braves game and joined the teams on the field during
     batting practice (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 7/17)....ANNA
     KOURNIKOVA, who withdrew from the A&P Tennis Classic in
     Mahwah, NJ, showed up at the event yesterday and "schmoozed
     with fans" before she "zoomed away for a late night out in
     Manhattan with her 'friend' [Red Wings C] SERGEI FEDOROV"
     (N.Y. POST, 7/17)....A gallery of about 2,000 followed SE RI
     PAK at yesterday's JAL Big Apple Classic first round.  In
     N.Y., Dave Anderson: "Mostly they were people of Asian
     backgrounds -- men, women, teen-agers and children -- but
     there were many white and black men, women, teen-agers and
     children" (N.Y. TIMES, 7/17)....In KY, Democrat KEN LUCAS is
     "using a pair of innocuous legislative votes to paint" GOP
     State Sen. JAY WILLIAMS as "Anti-NASCAR" in the congressional
     district race.  Williams voted against two bills honoring
     NASCAR's "legends," including DARRELL WALTRIP.  Williams says
     there was a "clerical error" made when the votes were taken. 
     Ground is being broken on JERRY CARROLL's new $130M KY track
     on Saturday (CINCINNATI ENQUIRER, 7/17).
