NASCAR driver Rick Mast is sponsored by rifle and
ammunition manufacturer Remington, which pays Mast's team
between $3-6M per season, according to Al Levine of the
ATLANTA CONSTITUTION. Mast, on Remington: "The problem I
have ... is that all the years I was with Skoal (chewing
tobacco), they never wanted me to say 'Skoal.' ... Just wear
the uniform and hat. I kind of got in that mode. So I get
with these folks, and they're calling me up asking, 'When
you gonna start saying Remington, Rick?'" Levine reports
that Remington "is delighted with Mast, because he's an avid
outdoorsman." Remington Manager of Sports Marketing Phil
Murdock: "We've worked with him on how and when to say
Remington. It means a lot to us. We're involved in racing
because we like racing, but we're involved very much to
promote our brand to outdoorsmen." Levine writes that
Remington is part of a new group of sponsors attracted to
NASCAR, and of the racing series' 38 "primary" sponsors this
season, 11 are companies that either manufacture shelved
goods or sell them (ATLANTA CONSTITUTION, 7/14).
