A FLAME-OUT: HOTCHKISS DENIES TALKS OF CFL CLUB PURCHASE
Published July 10, 1998
Flames co-Owner Harley Hotchkiss said yesterday that he
is "unaware of any discussions" involving the team's
possible purchase of the CFL Stampeders, according to Mark
Miller of the CALGARY SUN. A report on Thursday stated the
teams were involved in talks regarding a possible
acquisition by the Flames. But Hotchkiss said he would be
"very surprised if there were any discussions" ongoing. He
acknowledged that there was "some consideration" of buying
the team in '96, but said "there have been no recent
discussions." Stampeders Owner Sid Gutsche said that "while
there have been talks" between the teams in the past, "there
are no formal negotiations" ongoing. Hotchkiss: "We have
our plate full with our own challenges" (CALGARY SUN, 7/10).
