              BILL PETERSON joins One-On-One Sports as Exec VP/Dir of
         Network Sales.  Peterson was Dir of Sales at Interep Radio
         (BROADCASTING & CABLE, 6/29 issue)....ROBERT HAMPTON was
         named Division Manager for Specialty Sports Eyewear,
         including tennis and cycling, at Bolle America.  Hampton had
         been VP & GM at Head Sports and President & Managing Dir at
         Dunlop Slazenger (BRANDWEEK, 6/29)....CONNIE KOWAL will join
         Chicago Motor Speedway at Sportsman's Park as VP/Marketing &
         Broadcasting.  Kowal had been Cubs Dir of Special Events &
         Community Relations (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 6/30).

              Chargers Owner ALEX SPANOS and Padres Chair JOHN MOORES
         "are facing off this year" in the CA Gov.'s race, as Spanos
         "has emerged as one of the top contributors" to GOP nominee
         DAN LUNGREN, while Moores is a "big backer" of Democrat GARY
         DAVIS.  State records show that each has contributed about
         $100,000 to their respective candidates since '96 (SAN DIEGO
         UNION-TRIBUNE, 6/29)....FRANK SCOTT, who repped players such
         as MICKEY MANTLE, YOGI BERRA, WHITEY FORD and JOE DIMAGGIO,
         died at the age of 80 on Saturday (N.Y. TIMES, 6/30).  In
         N.Y., Bill Madden writes that Scott "could be called the
         father of the modern-day sports agent" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS,
         6/30)....Later this week, MAGIC JOHNSON "is expected to go
         one-on-one in his new talk show arena with one of his
         staunchest critics" -- shock jock HOWARD STERN (N.Y. DAILY
         NEWS, 6/30)....More than 1,000 actors auditioned for the
         role of MICHAEL JORDAN in the Fox Family Channel movie,
         "Michael Jordan: The Untold Story of an American Hero."  Fox
         Family Worldwide Exec VP ELIE DEKEL: "We're looking for that
         needle in a haystack" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE, 6/30)....DAVID
         LETTERMAN, questioning Mets C MIKE PIAZZA on his future with
         the team: "I'll tell you something, all kidding aside here. 
         I like you.  I've never met you before -- I get a look at
         you, I got a good feeling about you.  I don't want you here
         on the show tonight if you're gonna go play for the
         Diamondbacks.  It's gonna hurt" ("Late Show," CBS, 6/29).
