OAKLAND AUTHORITY OFFERS A'S EXTENSION ON LEASE DEADLINE

In an attempt to resolve a $48M claim filed by the A's,
Oakland Coliseum officials agreed yesterday to give the team
until July 31 to file intent to break its lease, according
to a report in the S.F. CHRONICLE. Coliseum Authority
attorney Deena McClain said, "We'd like to work out a
settlement." The deadline for filing the notice had been
July 1, but members of the authority decided to extend the
team "some good faith in ongoing arbitration with the public
agency." The A's claim is over renovations to the stadium
to accommodate the return of the Raiders in '95, which they
say led to a loss in ticket sales (S.F. CHRONICLE, 6/26).
