TOP PUP READY TO ANTE UP FOR VIKINGS; IS TAYLOR BEST HOPE?

T-Wolves Owner Glen Taylor said yesterday that he will
bid for the Vikings on July 1, according to Jerry Zgoda of
the Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE. Taylor said his financing is
set and that his investor group -- about 14 partners, the
same number involved with the T-Wolves -- is set. He said
he has made "the last of about 20 telephone calls to state
and civic officials informing them of his intentions and
asking if they'd be willing to listen to the franchise's
needs if indeed he does acquire it." Vikings co-Owner
Wheelock Whitney: "He has a rare combination of qualities
that would make him an ideal owner" (STAR TRIBUNE, 6/25).
VIKINGS NOTES: Potential Vikings bidder J. Bruce
Llewellyn's visit to the Twin Cities scheduled for today and
Friday has been postponed because he was admitted to a N.Y.
hospital for tests after a meeting with NFL Commissioner
Paul Tagliabue yesterday. Former Vikings CEO Mike Lynn said
that Llewellyn had not felt well during a trip to Europe
that ended this week and his doctor recommended tests
(Minneapolis STAR TRIBUNE, 6/25)....In St. Paul, Charley
Walters writes, "It turns out Vince McMahon, who owns the
World Wrestling Federation, might be a legitimate Vikings'
bidder after all" (ST. PAUL PIONEER PRESS, 6/25).
