KING'S THINGS: PROMOTER PROFILED IN CHICAGO TRIBUNE MAGAZINE
Published June 22, 1998
The foundation which DON KING stands on "has begun to
shake," as "detractors are trying to dethrone the king of
boxing, claiming that he's another of those shady characters
giving the sport a black eye," according to Jerry Thomas of
the CHICAGO TRIBUNE MAGAZINE. King's enemies have him "on
the ropes combating allegations that he has ripped off
millions from many of the boxers he has promoted," including
MIKE TYSON. King, however, "is fighting back, desperately
trying to protect his vulnerable empire and sinking public
image, which has taken many vicious blows for most of his
26-year career" (CHICAGO TRIBUNE MAGAZINE, 6/21 issue).
