INVESTMENT GROUP EYEING IRVINE FOR NFL FACILITY LOOKS FOR OK
Published June 22, 1998
A group looking to build an NFL stadium in Irvine, CA,
said that it has lined up $500M from investors willing to
finance the project, according to Shelby Grad of the L.A.
TIMES. The three partners, former USC football player
Anthony Davis, consultant Donn Morey and financial planner
Walter Burrows, "are new to sports development," and, with
the exception of Davis, "are largely unknown in NFL
circles." The Irvine City Council is undertaking
"extensive background checks" on the partners and potential
investors. They will consider the proposal on Tuesday.
Davis, Morey and Burrows, and their Southern California
Sports Group, have "pledged to raise" the $500M in the city,
"gives it exclusive rights to develop the stadium and help
find a team owner" (L.A. TIMES, 6/22).
