Seville, Spain, "announced its intention to bid" for the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, and did it at the gathering of the Association of National Olympic Committees, which began yesterday -- in Seville, according to Ashante Infantry of the TORONTO STAR. The announcement was a "surprise move," as IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch is from Barcelona, which hosted the '92 Games. That same year, Seville was the site of the World Expo. Toronto bid Chair David Crombie: "There's been talk of lots of cities, but I don't recall hearing about Seville" (TORONTO STAR, 6/2).
