  • THE BIDDERS OF SEVILLE: MEETING HOST ANNOUNCES INTENTIONS

Seville, Spain, "announced its intention to bid" for
the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, and did it at the gathering
of the Association of National Olympic Committees, which
began yesterday -- in Seville, according to Ashante Infantry
of the TORONTO STAR. The announcement was a "surprise
move," as IOC President Juan Antonio Samaranch is from
Barcelona, which hosted the '92 Games. That same year,
Seville was the site of the World Expo. Toronto bid Chair
David Crombie: "There's been talk of lots of cities, but I
don't recall hearing about Seville" (TORONTO STAR, 6/2).
