FAMILY GOLF CENTERS INC. BUYS GOLDEN BEAR GOLF CENTERS

          NY-based Family Golf Centers Inc. has agreed to pay
     $32M to acquire Golden Bear Golf Centers Inc. from Golden
     Bear Golf, a company controlled by Jack Nicklaus, according
     to Alan Wax of NEWSDAY.  The deal gives Family Golf Centers
     14 more golf facilities in 10 states, giving the company a
     total of 81 facilities in 23 states. The news "helped to
     lift" Family Golf's shares Wednesday by $.94 to $26.44 on
     the NASDAQ (NEWSDAY, 6/18).  In connection with the
     transaction, Golden Bear Golf will enter into a licensing
     agreement with Family Golf granting Family Golf the right to
     operate the acquired centers under the Golden Bear Golf
     Center brand.  Family Golf already operates seven Golden
     Bear Golf Center facilities in the U.S. (Golden Bear Golf).
