THEY CANE COVER COST OVERRUNS, IF ABLE TO RECEIVE GIVEBACKS

The Hurricanes said yesterday that they would "keep the
cash flowing" to help pay the $20M in cost overruns on
construction of Centennial arena "in exchange for
unspecified favors down the road," according to Willis &
Politi of the Raleigh NEWS & OBSERVER. Dean Jordan,
President of Gale Force Holdings, the team's parent company,
wouldn't say what the team would want out of the deal, such
as rent concessions and/or a larger percentage of arena
revenue. Jordan: "We'll contribute whatever is necessary if
our help is needed, so long as the principles on that remain
the same. We still have to get a return on our investment."
Under the current deal, the team will pay $2.75M in rent for
the first three years and $3M a year after that, with the
'Canes receiving "most revenue" from suites, concessions,
parking, concerts and other events (NEWS & OBSERVER, 6/17).
