IF SMILEY BID FAILS, ANOTHER GROUP READY TO REEL IN FISH

Another potential buyer for the Marlins stepped forward
on Tuesday, according to Snel & Fins of the Fort Lauderdale
     SUN-SENTINEL. Charles Dusseau, a former Miami-Dade
Commissioner and the Secretary of Commerce for FL from '93-
96, confirmed he represents a group interested in buying the
team. But Dusseau said that the group "won't make an offer
and won't make overtures" unless Marlins President Don
Smiley's bid fails. Dusseau: "We have no interest in getting
into a bidding war or to damage his bid, and we don't think
it would be welcomed." Dusseau would not reveal the names
of his investors except to say they are all from FL, some
from South FL. He said the group's intent would be to keep
the team in South FL. A spokesperson for Marlins Owner
Wayne Huizenga said Smiley was given just "a couple of more
weeks" to finalize his ownership group (SUN-SENTINEL, 6/10).
