The Premiere Soccer Alliance (PSA) will form a new
summer indoor soccer league that includes the Dallas
Sidekicks and "some remnants of the former" CISL, according
to Troy Phillips of the FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM. Sidekicks GM
Gordon Jago was named PSA President. Jago and a "yet-to-be-
determined league director of operations will finalize an
abbreviated" '98 PSA schedule "and prepare for a 10- or 12-
team league" in '99. Jago said the PSA will operate from a
business plan "that differs vastly from the CISL," one that
includes no franchise fees, no team dues, one vote per club
on all league issues -- with majority rule -- a universal PSA
manual on ticket sales/marketing and league "troubleshooting"
for teams with attendance problems. Jago: "The object is for
these teams to operate year-round. The goal is for no one to
lose money." Phillips added that in addition to Dallas,
teams in Portland and Phoenix are "aboard" for '98. Two
other teams could also join in '98, including one in
Sacramento. Next year, PSA teams "are expected" in Houston
and San Diego, with talks "ongoing" for teams in Detroit,
Washington, Tacoma, San Antonio and Monterrey, Mexico (Troy
Phillips, FT. WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, 5/12).
