NFL BE WARN-ER-ED: TRAVIS SAYS BOOK TAKES SHOTS AT LEAGUE

Warner Books "is preparing to publish a damning
indictment of the NFL," according to Neal Travis of the N.Y.
POST. Travis reports that Warner Books "officially has an
embargo on any publicity for their fall release of 'Pros and
Cons: The Criminals Who Play in the NFL' -- evidently to
avoid pre-publication protests from the league." Travis
calls the book, written by Jeff Benedict and Don Yaeger,
"the NFL's worst nightmare: a documentation of how the
nation's most popular sport ignores the criminal
transgressions of some of its most illustrious stars," and
says that the book will be "a major embarrassment" to the
NFL. Benedict wrote "Public Heroes, Private Felons" about
crime and sports, while Yaeger authored "Under the Tarnished
Dome," an expose of Notre Dame football (N.Y. POST, 5/13).
