     SMITH was named the winner of the J. WALTER KENNEDY
     CITIZENSHIP AWARD for the '97-98 season.  The award is
     presented annually by the Pro Basketball Writers Assoc. to
     an NBA player, coach or trainer in recognition of
     outstanding community service and charitable work (NBA).
     ...Bills QB DOUG FLUTIE and his wife LAURIE will announce
     the creation a new charitable foundation, THE DOUG FLUTIE
     JR. FOUNDATION FOR AUTISM, today in MA.  The Flutie's 6-
     year-old son DOUG JR. was diagnosed with severe autism three
     years ago (The Giving Back Fund)....Celtics coach RICK
     PITINO, on his ownership of Kentucky Derby racehorse HALORY
     HUNTER, and his relationship with Trainer NICK ZITO: "I have
     a great owner with the Celtics; he signs the bills, shows up
     and cheers. I'm the same with Nick.  I sign the checks and
     pay the bills, and I ask him when and where to show up. 
     That's my input" (Baltimore SUN, 4/29).
