          First Union Corp. completed its $19.7B takeover of
     CoreStates Financial Corp. yesterday.  But First Union
     officials "aren't confirming" reports that the CoreStates
     Center will be renamed the First Union National (FUN) Center
     (PHILADELPHIA INQUIRER, 4/29)....NYC Mayor Rudolph Giuliani
     said that NJ Gov. Christie Whitman "issued an unconditional
     surrender" in her attempts to lure the Yankees to her state. 
     Giuliani: "It is obvious that our strategy has worked.  It
     seems the prospect of New Jersey losing professional sports
     teams has made Gov. Whitman back off."  Whitman, on the
     Yankees: "They're the Bronx Bombers.  That's where they
     belong" (N.Y. DAILY NEWS, 4/29)....In AZ, Jim Gintonio
     reports that when the Bank One Ballpark's roof was closed
     before last night's D'Backs-Braves game, "gears could be
     heard throughout the park."  Gintonio: "It might be time to
     get out the gunk that stops squeaks" (AZ REPUBLIC, 4/29).
