THE DAILY tracked regular season men's college
     basketball telecasts on ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN and ESPN2,
     starting with ESPN's November 4 Georgia-NC State game and
     ending with CBS's March 1 broadcasts of UCLA-Washington and
     Purdue-Michigan State.  The chart below lists schools ranked
     in either the AP or USA TODAY/ESPN Top 25 poll on March 2,
     according to their number of appearances on one of the five
     networks.  Duke and North Carolina, with 19 appearances
     each, topped our rankings, followed by Kansas with 18 and
     Kentucky with 14.  Figuring an average telecast length of
     two hours per game, those four teams logged more TV hours
     this season than one season's worth of 22 original half-hour
     episodes of "Seinfeld" and "Friends" combined (THE DAILY).
          BREAKDOWN: CBS aired 46 games featuring 47 different
     teams.  Indiana, Georgetown and Louisville were among
     unranked teams featured prominently, appearing four times
     each.  ABC aired 28 games with 33 different teams, with Wake
     Forest the only unranked team broadcast more than twice. 
     NBC aired four Big East games with seven different teams. 
     ESPN/ESPN2 carried a total of 216 games.  Schedules were
     obtained from each network.  (^) = schools which
