CHICAGO'S NEW TV STAR -- SOLDIER FIELD?
Soldier Field was a "financial success" in '97, as the Chicago Park District rented it out for commercial and TV shoots. Film crews for "about" 10 commercials and the TV series "Early Edition" rented the stadium out last year, accounting for "about" 5% of the stadium's gross revenue of $13.5M, up from $11M in '96. Commercials shot at Soldier Field included an Edge shaving gel spot with Brett Favre, a Nike ad with Michael Jordan, as well as Wheaties and Lite Beer spots (Della De Lafuente, CHICAGO SUN-TIMES, 3/5). -
FACILITY NOTES
The Bengals said due dates for payments on suites and club seats for the 2000 season have been extended to August 1, 1998 and August 1, 1999. The payments had been due March 31 of each year. The extensions are a result of a delay in the start of stadium construction (Bengals). In Cincinnati, Barry Hortsman wrote that the stadium "may feature a largely green interior color scheme to underline the team's 'Jungle' theme" (POST, 3/3)....A source "close to the negotiations" for the naming rights to the Bucs' new stadium said the candidates have been narrowed to two, with TruGreen seen as the leader, ahead of Eckerd Drugs (TAMPA TRIBUNE, 3/5).
