O'S INCREASE PARKING SPACES, REDUCE TENSION WITH STATE

Orioles fans will find more parking spaces this year
than at any time since Camden Yards opened in '92, according
to Stephen Fehr of the WASHINGTON POST. The total number of
spaces this year will be "about" 5,210 by season's end
(WASHINGTON POST, 3/30). In Baltimore, Jon Morgan writes
that "the most remarkable feature" of the announcement "was
the fact that both the Orioles and Maryland Stadium Authority
[MSA] were represented," despite the recent feuding between
the two groups. Orioles Vice Chair Joe Foss: "I think it's a
reflection of our mutual attempts to work together. There
are still issues that both sides have that need to be
addressed." In a "sign of progress," Morgan reports that MSA
Chair John Moag called Orioles Owner Peter Angelos a few
weeks ago. Morgan: "That's a long way from this time last
year, when the relationship between the Orioles and its
landlord sunk so low that the Orioles went to court and
accused the state of printing counterfeit parking passes."
Another "point of contention" was resolved where the team has
been allowed to rent space in the Camden Yards warehouse for
a sports-themed art gallery this year (Baltimore SUN, 3/30).
