  • EX-NUGGET CH-ISSELS HIS WAY BACK INTO TEAM'S FRONT OFFICE

              Former Nuggets player and coach DAN ISSEL will be named
         the team's GM at an news conference today, according to Vicki
         Michaelis of the DENVER POST.  The Nuggets are also "expected
         to announce" that JAN VOLK will be retained "on a long-term
         basis as a consultant" (DENVER POST, 3/25).  In Denver, Mike
         Monroe reports that Ascent Sports Senior VP/Business Affairs
         STEVE STORY and VP/Operations KIRK DYER were "fired."  Ascent
         Sports President ELLEN ROBINSON said that newly hired Exec
         VP/Marketing DENNIS MANNION would assume some of Story's and
         Dyer's duties (DENVER POST, 3/25).

              The IHL K.C. Blades named MICHAEL BEHYMER as Senior VP/
         Business Operations.  Behymer spent nine years with the
         Royals, the last five as Dir of Marketing & Sales (Blades).
         .....Predators GM & Exec VP/Hockey Operations DAVID POILE was
         named GM of the '98 U.S. National Team (USA Hockey)....ARMEN
         KETEYIAN has signed on as a Contributing Editor with Sport
         magazine....Tennis Magazine's RICK BEISPEL has been promoted
         to Publisher.  Beispel has been with magazine for 13 years
         (MEDIAWEEK, 3/23)....ERIC DROSSART, Dir of IMG's TWI ops in
         the U.K., Europe and Africa, will ad the title of Senior Exec
         VP/Managing Dir -- Europe, African, Middle Eastern Ops (IMG).

  • FOOTBALL AD SALES GET FRIED AT ABC, ESPN

              ABC Exec VP/Marketing & General Sales Manager LARRY
         FRIED has been named the executive in charge of NFL ad sales
         for both ABC Sports and ESPN, according to Rich Katz of DAILY
         VARIETY.  Beginning this season, all NFL sales for ABC and
         ESPN "must be run through Fried."  Katz reports that the
         expansion of Fried's duties "would appear to be a victory for
         ABC," since Fried reports directly to ABC President of Ad
         Sales MARVIN GOLDSMITH.  Sports media buyers "have been
         buzzing about the internal Disney competition for weeks." 
         Last year, "Monday Night Football," and ESPN's football
         packages were sold separately.  Katz also reports that JON
         LITNER has been promoted to Senior VP/Programming for ABC
         Sports.  Litner was formerly VP/Programming for ABC's sports
         division (Rich Katz, DAILY VARIETY, 3/25).

              Nike VP/Global Sales TIM JOYCE has been named by Ohio
         University's Sports Administration & Facility Management
         Program as its '98 Distinguished Alumnus of the Year (THE
         DAILY).....Adelphi, NY, Univ. will host its inaugural
         "Sports, Education and Society Symposium" on April 23.  The
         event will be free and open to the public (THE DAILY).
         ....CBS's DAVID LETTERMAN's interesting movie facts: "To play
         the role in 'My Giant,' method actor GHEORGHE MURESAN gained
         over 20 inches" ("Late Show," CBS, 3/24).

  • PUFF IS DRAGGIN': COMB'S HEISMAN CHANCES GO POOF!

              CARL and KEVIN POSTON "are in" as agents for CHARLES
         WOODSON, according to Richard Rosenblatt of the AP.  Carl
         Poston: "We have a contract with him."  Poston said he and
         his brother will represent Woodson in NFL contract
         negotiations only, but "we may have more to say later" about
         endorsement deals.  Reports had Woodson among the first
         clients of rapper PUFFY COMBS (AP/DET. NEWS, 3/25).

  • SI PRESENTS ... PERSONNEL CHANGES

              SI announced that TINA IENNA has been named Detroit Ad
         Dir.  Ienna joined SI as an Account Manager in '94 following
         ten years at Newsweek, USA Today and the Detroit Free Press;
         TOM CHISHOLM has been promoted to L.A. Ad Dir.  Chisholm
         joined Time Inc. in '92 and has been managing the Ford and
         Mercury business for SI in Detroit for five years; JOHN REESE
         has been promoted to Assistant Consumer Marketing Dir.  Reese
         has been with SI for six years; JONATHAN SHAR has been
         promoted to Assistant Consumer Marketing Dir.  Shar has been
         with SI since '94; and MARK ELLIS has been named Publishing
         Dir for SI Presents.  Ellis joined Time Inc. in '91 after
         working as the Detroit Manager of Inc. Magazine (SI).
