The PGA Tour Honda Classic "is raising its purse" a record $800,000 to $2.6M next year. The Tour "is kicking $300,000 into every tournament's purse next year" as a result of its new TV deal, which "is expected to generate revenues of close to" $400M from '99 through 2002 (SUN- SENTINEL, 3/17)....The Boise Convention and Visitors bureau estimated that last weekend's NCAA men's Tournament West Regional had a direct economic impact of $3.5M on the region (OREGONIAN, 3/17)....Charles Pasarell, Dir of the State Farm Evert Cup and the Newsweek Champions Cup tennis events held at Indian Wells, CA, said the event has "outgrown its present facility" and "requires a new, multi-court complex with a stadium that accommodates 16,000 or so."
